Convert a purchase receipt PDF to Excel
Receipts rarely print quantities, and they print a card number, an auth code and a terminal ID that all look like prices. Those are kept out of the total. Every line is multiplied out and added up against the total the document prints, so the figures agree with the paperwork instead of just looking plausible.

Where purchase keeps your receipt PDF
The exact path through purchase.
- 1Emailed receipts usually carry a PDF attachment, or a View receipt link that offers Download.
- 2For a paper till receipt, a flat, well-lit photo works — though the printed PDF version is always read more accurately.
- 3Card statements are not receipts: they show one total per merchant, not the priced lines. Convert the receipt itself if you need the detail.
- 4Several receipts for one expense claim can go through the bulk converter together.

Turning that PDF into Excel
- 1Download the PDF Take the purchase receipt using the steps above.
- 2Upload it here One statement or a multi-page month — the first 3 pages convert free, with no account.
- 3Check the rows, then download You see the extracted lines and the totals check before paying for anything. A ready-to-use .xlsx spreadsheet, with description, quantity, unit price and line total.
In Excel
What the purchase file does when you open it
The conversion is half the job. This is the other half.
- 1It opens straight into Excel — no import wizard, no Text to Columns. Amounts are stored as numbers and dates as dates, so =SUM() over the amount column works the moment the file is open, and sorting by date puts the month in order rather than in alphabetical order.
- 2The header row is frozen and filters are switched on, so a 300-row statement stays navigable without setting either up.
- 3A second sheet, Reconciliation, carries the arithmetic: the opening balance, money in, money out, the closing balance printed on the statement, and the difference between that and the rows. It travels with the file, so it is still there when the file reaches a client or an auditor.
- 4Any row the parser could not resolve confidently is shaded amber and scored in a confidence column. Filter that column to review those rows first rather than reading all of them.

What happens to the receipt you upload
You're handing a financial document to a website you found through a search result. Here is exactly what it does with it.
- Retention
- 60 minutes. Your PDF and the spreadsheet built from it are deleted on a timer, whether you download or not.
- Accounts
- None. No signup, no password, no email required to convert or to pay.
- Where it runs
- One server in London. PDFs are parsed there; the text isn't handed to an outside service.
- If it's wrong
- 14 days, refunded. And you see the extracted rows before you're asked for money.
Questions
purchase receipts, specifically
How do I convert a purchase receipt to Excel?
Upload your purchase receipt PDF, and LedgerLift returns a ready-to-use .xlsx spreadsheet with description, quantity, unit price and line total columns — usually in seconds.
Can I export my purchase receipt to Excel?
Yes. purchase doesn't export to Excel directly, so download the receipt as a PDF and convert it here — no manual copying.
How do I download my purchase receipt as a PDF?
Emailed receipts usually carry a PDF attachment, or a View receipt link that offers Download. For a paper till receipt, a flat, well-lit photo works — though the printed PDF version is always read more accurately. Card statements are not receipts: they show one total per merchant, not the priced lines. Convert the receipt itself if you need the detail. Several receipts for one expense claim can go through the bulk converter together. Then upload it here.
What does it cost to convert a purchase receipt?
The first 3 pages are free and need no account. Past that it's $3 to unlock the statement you just converted, which also leaves you credit towards the next one. Full pricing.
Is it accurate?
Two checks, both against the document itself: quantity times unit price has to give the line total, and the lines plus tax have to give the total printed on the receipt. Where a receipt prints no total there is nothing to check against, and the page says so rather than implying a check it didn't run.
Is my data secure?
Your PDF is deleted automatically after processing and we keep no copy. There's no account to create, and we never sell, share or train on financial data.
Which purchase receipts are supported?
Any purchase receipt issued as a PDF, itemised or not. A receipt with no printed total still converts — the page just says so rather than claiming a check it couldn't run. Multi-page documents are fine.
