Convert a employee payslip PDF to Excel

A payslip has two halves that have to agree: earnings and deductions. Both convert into one signed column, so the rows sum to net pay rather than to a gross figure nobody was paid. Every line is multiplied out and added up against the total the document prints, so the figures agree with the paperwork instead of just looking plausible.

Where employee keeps your payslip PDF

The exact path through employee.

  1. 1Payslips normally come from an employer's payroll portal — ADP, Workday, Sage, Xero Me and the rest all export PDF.
  2. 2Look for Pay, Pay statements or Payslips, then the pay date.
  3. 3Download the PDF rather than screenshotting it: the text layer is what makes the earnings and deductions convert cleanly.
  4. 4A year of payslips can go through the bulk converter in one upload.

  2. 2Upload it here One statement or a multi-page month — the first 3 pages convert free, with no account.

In Excel

What the employee file does when you open it

The conversion is half the job. This is the other half.

  1. 1It opens straight into Excel — no import wizard, no Text to Columns. Amounts are stored as numbers and dates as dates, so =SUM() over the amount column works the moment the file is open, and sorting by date puts the month in order rather than in alphabetical order.
  2. 2The header row is frozen and filters are switched on, so a 300-row statement stays navigable without setting either up.
  3. 3A second sheet, Reconciliation, carries the arithmetic: the opening balance, money in, money out, the closing balance printed on the statement, and the difference between that and the rows. It travels with the file, so it is still there when the file reaches a client or an auditor.
  4. 4Any row the parser could not resolve confidently is shaded amber and scored in a confidence column. Filter that column to review those rows first rather than reading all of them.

How do I download my employee payslip as a PDF?

Payslips normally come from an employer's payroll portal — ADP, Workday, Sage, Xero Me and the rest all export PDF. Look for Pay, Pay statements or Payslips, then the pay date. Download the PDF rather than screenshotting it: the text layer is what makes the earnings and deductions convert cleanly. A year of payslips can go through the bulk converter in one upload. Then upload it here.

What does it cost to convert a employee payslip?

The first 3 pages are free and need no account. Past that it's $3 to unlock the statement you just converted, which also leaves you credit towards the next one. Full pricing.

Is it accurate?

Two checks, both against the document itself: quantity times unit price has to give the line total, and the lines plus tax have to give the total printed on the payslip. Where a payslip prints no total there is nothing to check against, and the page says so rather than implying a check it didn't run.

Is my data secure?

Which employee payslips are supported?

employee payslips and pay statements as PDF, weekly or monthly, with earnings and deductions in whatever order the employer prints them. Multi-page documents are fine.
